Where: Black Sheep Vineyard
When: Saturday, July 17, 2010, 1:00-10:00pm
What: A full day of music, food, and wine!
Many of you may be headed to Jamboree in the Hills this weekend, but if you’re looking for a more intimate, low-key experience, come to the vineyard! This will be a great time to relax and enjoy the views from our deck, drink some wine, and listen to some fantastic music.
11:00am: A tour of the vineyard for those who would like to know where the grapes are grown and what types are out there.
12:00pm: Uncle Eddie and Robin opens the music fest with their wonderful style of guitar, banjo, and song. (Please see below for photo.)
1:00pm: Earl “Randy” Keener plays his 12-string guitar and sings his own style of song. Randy played a short set for us a few weeks ago and we were very impressed by his ability to entertain.
2:30pm: John “Buc” Allemond plays solo for us! Buc has performed for us with his various bands such as John Allemond Blue Grass band and Courtney Ray and The Players. Now he is coming to do a solo act with various songs from the 70′s, etc.
4:00pm: Carolyn Stanley and Bill Gorby: Carolyn and Bill are a folk duo who have performed with various groups throughout their musical careers, but now they team up for a duo performance. They have both performed with Peach’s Little Band, Big Bill Dup and the Letdowns, and most recently here at Black Sheep Vineyard with Persons of Interest. Carolyn sings and plays finger style guitar, clawhammer banjo, and charango. Bill also sings and plays bass. They will perform an eclectic mix of folk music from country blues to Spanish Andean music.
6:00pm: Bluegrass Express: Black Sheep Vineyard welcomes back this wonderful old-time Bluegrass band. (Please see below for a photo and more info on the band.)
8:00pm: We welcome, for the first time, a legend in the Ohio Valley, Roger Hoard! Don’t miss this ultra-talented musician. Roger has performed for many years around this area. I was lucky to have seen him perform with native Tim O”Brien at the Capital Music Hall a few months ago. Roger will be playing earlier in the day at Jamboree and we are thrilled to have him close our first music fest!
We are so excited to be able to bring to our area a small but wonderful music fest. PARTY WITH THE SHEEP 2010!!!
Food will be done by Chef Garrett Kaldor throughout the day. Wine, our own version of sangria, and soft drinks will be offered.
Musicians will be playing inside or out depending on the weather.
We will be charging a cover charge of $10 for the day’s lineup of musicians.
Please don’t miss this wonderful event. Our very first PARTY WITH THE SHEEP MUSIC FEST!

Bluegrass Express is made up of veterans of the bluegrass music scene in the Ohio Valley. Bob Talkington’s jackhammer rhythm guitar and the lightning fast licks of Rich Smith’s banjo join forces with Vic Marshall’s unique mandolin style, Wes Talkington’s fast fiddle, and Carol Smith’s hard-driving bass to produce the unique sound and energy that is Bluegrass Express. Their lead and harmony vocals are some of the finest around. With their unique versions of time-tested traditional and gospel music, Bluegrass Express delivers crowd-pleasing performances with music that stirs emotions and songs that touch the heart. They have played at many local festivals and fairs and have performed a number of times on live radio broadcasts, as well as being regulars at the Pennyroyal Opera House and The Wheeling Jamboree. They have recorded two CDs on which there are several original songs. Their first, “Hear Your Voice Callin’ in the Wind” was recorded in 2003, and in 2005, they recorded “He Set Me Free.”
